CONSERVATION PROGRAM

The conservation project takes place in a local community located in the Ecuadorian cloud forest about 1 hour from Quito. Since 1995 this community has developed programs in ecotourism, agro ecology and environmental education.

According to the volunteers’ interests, abilities and the needs of the community, they have the option to participate in some of the following activities:

-Support the environmental educational program with the children in the community

-Help construct and maintain trails, camping and recreacional areas

-Participate in a reforestation program, normally offered with your host family

-Learn how to make cheese and jam in the small community co-ops

-Work in the organic garden planting seeds, look after the coffee crops, and maintain the reserve’s protected areas

-Keep an inventory of identified flora and fauna

-Participate in activities like sowing, weeding, digging, harvesting preparing seed beds, or anything related to vegetable gardening

Requirements for the volunteers:

  • At least 18 years old; both genders are welcome
  • Basic Spanish
  • Length of stay 1 to 12 weeks
  • Good physical condition
  • Work schedule from Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm (weekends free)
  • As an individual volunteer, you must stay and take meals with an assigned host family in the community (each host family can host up to 3 volunteers). If you are part of a larger group, you have the option to stay in the community lodge
